Robotic platforms are gradually (but steadily) entering human environments in various contexts.
One of provisioned applications is to allow the so-called telepresence, in other words, providing a physical body in a remote location that can be teleoperated so as to provide the artificial feeling of one's being situated in the remote environment.
As an example, robots are beginning to be used in hospitals as a means for a doctor to visit patients. Here is a video that exposes the general idea.
